BETTER SLEEP
Hi guys,
My lecturer asked our class to write an essay about aything that we want. So I choose better sleep as my topic.
Sleep is an important part of
our daily routine. We spend about one-third of our time doing it. Quality
sleep and getting enough of it at the right times is as essential to survival
as food and water. Without sleep you cannot form or maintain the pathways
in your brain that let you learn and create new memories, and it is harder to
concentrate and respond quickly. When we sleep well, we wake up feeling refreshed and alert for our daily
activities. We tend to think of sleep as a time when the mind and body shut
down. Normally we will feel sleepy at night because at the morning we already
use our body to do works.
The science of sleep gives us
to know the purpose of sleep and how much sleep do we need. The purpose of
sleep are functions to restoration, memory consolidation and for metabolic
health. During sleep, we can restore our brain and get
rid of metabolic waste two-fold faster compared to on waking hours. Our brain
is restored during sleep and wake up refreshed and with a clear mind. Not only
that, enough sleep gives us good performance each day. If we did not have
enough sleep, our performance will decrease and not feeling well.
How do we know sleep works?
The sleep-wake cycle is the process to get quality of sleep. There are two
important parts which is slow wave sleep (deep sleep) and rapid eye movement
(REM) sleep. Slow wave sleep helps
you recover physically while REM sleep helps you recover mentally. Next,
age-related sleep changes. The higher the ages, the lower the total of time
sleep. When we are getting older, we are not going to have better sleep as
well.
Other than that, we always
get a trouble to sleep. How to sleep better? As a normal person, we will scroll
down our phone or watching television before sleep. The light from the screen
will distract us from sleep and become fresher. To improve sleep quality, we
need to refer what time are we want to sleep. If everyday we sleep at the same time, it
is easier for our body to develop good sleep.
